A married couple from the USA took early retirement to have an adventure. They moved to a Central American country, and had a great time exploring and learning to live like the locals do. After about a year, however, they began to miss certain things in their lives. After 2 ½ years, the married couple determined that they needed a broader range of cultural activities, medical services and a few amenities not available in the country. They traveled to other countries, and finally found a lovely city in Mexico where they wanted to relocate. While traveling on their investigative visits, they met local people and other expatriates from the US. (Expatriates are people from any country, who live abroad and still retain citizenship in their country of origin.) Since the relocating couple was not fluent in Spanish language, the locals and the expatriate community stepped in to assist. They provided the married couple with information and referrals to find a house to rent. They gave tips on how to adjust to life in the town – where to shop, which vendors were reliable. They provided information on what to expect when transacting business, and customs to respect when socializing. The married couple would arrive in their new city with a house awaiting them. But better still, they would already feel at home, having the benefits of good neighbors who are kind just to be nice and helpful when they are not required to help.
