Today I did something nice and got "stuck" doing it for a long time. At first I was a little peeved, but it turned out great. It went down like this:

There were a lot of people leaving a large office building. An elderly gentleman was carrying a book and a bag and trying to exit using his walker. So I stepped around him and said, “Here, let me get that door for you!” He smiled gratefully and went through the door, but before he was gone another man came dashing across the lobby, “Hang on! Hang on, there!” as he ran after the old fellow. “Sir, your jacket,” he yelled, dashing through my open door. Before I could release the door, another group of people filed through, each saying to me, “Thank you!” “Thanks!” or “How Nice!” That group turned out to be much larger than I’d estimated and I noted they had on “Hello! My Name Is…” tags, so apparently a meeting was either over or relocating. During the brief break in their action came a mother with twins in a double stroller. I had just let the door go, but grabbed it quickly and she went through, saying “Oh, bless you!” At first, I’d been annoyed by the rushing man, but then decided he was also just trying to help. As more people came through thanking and even blessing me, my smile got bigger and I was filled with a terrific happiness. I might just do this on purpose when I have more time!
